Cost & quality
The Cost & Quality, can vary wildly and mI don’t see many ay not necessarily be related to the intrinsic value of the furniture you are buying.
Low quality furniture will last few years and you will notice pretty soon the signs of wear and tear. Although cheap, it is sold at high profit margins and usually poor quality of manufacturing. It is usually worthless investing a lot of time and effort in low quality materials that still have to deal with resistance to wear and tear. This is the case of anything made out of Particle boards.
MDF and Plywood would end up around the same manufacturing cost as MDF requires a lot of work in painting or veneering. No point paying for laminated MDF when you can buy laminated Particle board and get the same result. ?
Most functional furniture is done here and although it is not cheap, you can find manufacturers which will deliver a passable quality furniture.
In the MDF & Plywood playground we can start seeing Custom made furniture. This is a category of furniture models which are already available, you have some options to be adapted to your house, but 80% of the model is already established by the manufacturer. Surprisingly this category can compete with large manufacturers in terms of pricing, so you may get to customize your furniture within the budget but without the restriction of established large manufacturers.
Veneer is a peculiar section as it has potential in making amazing furniture. It has been striped to bear minimum in order to convey the looks and feels of real wood but without the cost of it. The disadvantage is that veneer thickness should be 2 – 3 millimeters but nowadays most veneer used in mass manufacturing is under 0.8 millimeters. It looks the part but does not have the wear and tear resistance needed for everyday use.
On the other hand veneer used in custom made or bespoke is usually high end wood, rare and made to appropriate thickness as it has the potential to generate amazing furniture.
The best furniture you could get, which eventually will become heirlooms for your family is bespoke, solid wood made by craftsmen makers. It is a more expensive option but still within the affordable price range.
The type of wood is also a variable when it comes to pricing the furniture. The norm would be Oak and above that would be Walnut. The range of prices varies a lot when it comes to wood. Discard anything made of pine, poplar or anything like that, due to…. De ce?
